Exporing Vietnam - Da Nang & Hoi An

20/07/2023

Come with me to relive my adventure of discovering the beauty of Vietnam where I spent two months of my life. In this article you will learn where I stayed, what I ate, what is worth visiting and what to avoid. I will show you what the local people's life is like and tell you how different it is from the one I live in Europe. You can look forward to curiosities and lots of unexpected things. Overall, I will break it down into several parts, because it is definitely not possible to cover everything in one article.

Da Nang - HAIAN Hotel

One of the nicest hotels, right on the promenade by the beach with very nice staff, which has a luxurious restaurant with excellent food. The modernly equipped hotel offers a rooftop swimming pool with a panoramic view of an amazing, wide, long beach with white sand. The views from the rooms are really worth it! The prices are very reasonable, I would go back in a heartbeat.

In addition, it is close to everything, but at the same time it is quiet there at night, although it is only a few minutes by motorbike directly to the center. The hotel also has an underground garage where you can park a rented motorbike. I also used the gym and SPA several times during my stay.

Food

As for the food, I had hotel breakfast every morning, which was bufet style, but very rich and they changed some parts every day, so it was also variable. I usually ate eggs, fruit, sushi and vegetables.

BUT what you can't miss in Vietnam are night markets which are full of delicious food and then you can find almost everything there - clothes, jewellery, souvenirs, shoes, electronics,,,

You can find both sweet and salty treats like fish, octopus, eggs, pancakes filled with fruit, fried rolls, ice cream, cotton candy, sausages, vietnamese baguettes called banh-mi and tons of tropical fruit. All the food is very cheap.

I personally fell in love with pineapple or banana pancekes, shrimp rolls, bun bo nam bo and coconut ice cream.

Where to go?

I can definitely recommend you to visit the city by bike/motorbike. There is so much to see! First of all, your must visit is Dragon bridge, whis changes its colors and there is a fire show every evening - BUT don't go too close :D otherwise you'll end like I did. (If you wanna know, write me to the comments below)

Then, if you are a fan of amusement parks, you should not miss the Asia park, with rollercoasters and huge wheel with a view on all the city! (and it is right next to the food night market). The price is more than reasonable - 9,5 EUR/adult.

Next tip is Lady Buddha statue and temple (Trạm dừng chân Chùa Linh Ứng), which is located just after the boarders of the city on the small peninsula. We also continued to the Ban Co Peak, that offers a beautiful view on the city BUT be careful - they won't let you go there without manual motorbike as the automatic one is not capable of that road.

Marble mountains - amazing views, caves, temples and a lot of stairs :D So get ready to sweat... But it is definitely worth it!

A little village just a few kilometres from the city, where you can find a lot of shops that sell marble sculptures and souvenirs.

HOI AN

The most romantic small city of Vietnam I had the pleasure to see.

Otherwise, I would also call it the city of lanterns, because you see them everywhere. And it is incredibly beautiful!

For me, this is a place I would love to return to. You can find beautiful hotel resorts near the beach, but I personally chose accommodation with a pool right in the city for one important reason. Hoi An is a tailor town. You will find tailors, wedding salons, shops with fabrics and lace on almost every corner. I personally had 2 suits, a skirt, jumpsuit and 2 dresses made by 3 different tailors. In order to be able to commute to exams, I wanted to live as close as possible. Everything was done in 3 days. I chose the fabrics, thought out the cuts and it was off. I paid 600 EUR for all!

First one was Bong tailor whis is lead by this amazing lady in the picture. I was very happy with the result! You can see one of the dresses here.

The second tailor I don't remember as I was not that happy with the jumpsuit from there. Unfortunately I do not have picture of it to show you

The third tailor was Ann - she is really good. Everything I have from her is adorable as this dress. And the quality is top!
